Contact Tracing
Even if you are not in the education world like I am, I’m sure you have heard the term “Contact Tracing.” In education and public health, contact tracing is the process of identification of persons who may have come into contact with an infected person. If you are found to be “in” contact tracing with a person who has COVID-19 you are asked to quarantine at home for a certain period of time.
At school we consider a person who tests positive to be a subject and all the people they were in close contact with are considered to be in contact tracing. The thinking is that anyone in contact tracing could become positive in the next few days because of the close contact. Obviously, the goal is to keep the number of positive cases as few as possible.
Since I spend so much time thinking about and working through contact tracing at school, I started thinking...what if we started thinking about contact tracing differently.
If I was a “subject” would anyone be in danger of contracting what I have? And, as a Christian, what symptoms would show? A spirit of fear, derision, hopelessness, anger, or irritability? I certainly hope not, but we all know that these symptoms are highly contagious. I can think of many times I have been in close contact with someone showing these symptoms and I definitely left their presence as a carrier and showing symptoms! Unfortunately, I know I’ve been the “subject” of these unpleasant symptoms and spread them to others, as well.
In John 13:35, Jesus says, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” If we are going to be the subject of Contact Tracing, I pray that we spread the symptoms of love, peace, courage, kindness, and joy to everyone with whom we are in close contact. Let me be a contract tracing of LOVE.
