Are you a worrier? My grandfather was such a worrier that sometimes we wouldn’t tell him we were going on a vacation until we were home from said vacation. I’m not much of a worrier overall, but if I do fall back into this habit, it’s usually when I wake up in the middle of the night. Every terrible scenario about anything or anyone I care about runs through my mind. Or my brain says something cruel like, “You know what we haven’t thought about in a while?  That mean and hurtful thing you did to that person in 2001. Um, thanks.” I think it was Steve Baggett that once said that worry is reverse prayer. That one has stuck with me! I know saying, “Don’t worry” may not cure you, but knowing that God REALLY doesn’t want us to worry can at least give us a goal to strive for. (Sidenote: none of the terrible things I’ve worried about have ever happened. And, even if something terrible happens that we worried about, some really great nights of God-given restful sleep were ruined by the worry when we might have really needed that strength.

Matthew 6:27  Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

  1. I read a quote one time that said, “There is not enough room for worry and faith to live in the same place”. I am also a worrier, I worry about EVERYTHING. I always pray for God to calm my mind and it always works. Our God is so big and so faithful, our life and this journey is his. My favorite scripture when I am worrying is “When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I am” Psalm 62:1.
I hope you have a wonderful and less worrisome week. You are in my prayers.
