11. Remember the rocks in the jar story? First things first.
Have you seen the lesson many preachers do with the rocks, the pebbles, the sand, and the water? There are so many amazing things to take away from this visual lesson. The one I want to highlight here is intentionality with your life. Put in the big rocks (God, faith, husband, kids, work) and fill the rest with what is left. It almost seems like this little story is an antidote for anxiety and worry. We really suffer over the big rocks. “Am I in prayer enough?” “Have I read and studied my Bible today like I want to? Does my husband feel loved and supported from me in the love language he speaks?” “Are the kids feeling heard and seen by their mama?” This stuff will keep you up at night. But, I don’t think God wants us to feel like our “jar” is a source of stress. In fact, most of those rocks represent a really big blessing from Him. So, try to keep it simple. Pray and focus on the big rocks.
Philippians 4:6-8 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.
