One of my favorite stories I’ve read about stopping gossip comes from Steven Covey’s awesome book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He told of a time when a co-worker was complaining about the boss. Covey agreed with the man that the boss did indeed have the shortcomings he was so incensed about. Covey said, “lets go to him right now and tell him our concerns. He can tell us how he will address them and maybe we can help everyone improve.” Can you imagine if everyone did this? How completely safe would you feel with your friends, family, church, and coworker if you knew that no one was talking about you behind your back, because every comment was brought straight to the person being discussed?
